GAME PLAY

A coin toss determines initial possession of the ball. Conducted by the court monitor with the designated captains from both teams prior to each game.

BALL SIZE

- 3rd and 4th Grades: 27.5

- Girls 5th-12th and Boys 5th and 6th: 28.5

- Boys 7th-12th: 29.5

TIME

- Duration: Games are 12 minutes running time.

- Time-Outs: None. Short water breaks may be allowed due to heat or lack of subs.

- Stalling: No stalling. Ref’s discretion 30-second shot clock.

SUBSTITUTIONS

- Unlimited after made baskets or when the ball is not in play.

GENERAL RULES

- Team Composition: A team may play with only two players (3 on 2).

- Jump Balls: Possession will alternate.

- Lane Violations: 3 seconds in the lane will result in a turnover. Refs may issue reminders.

- Change of Possession: Both feet and the ball must go outside of the 3-pt line.

- Out of Bounds: Ball that goes out of bounds is checked behind the arc. Half-court line is out of bounds.

Ball Checks

- Following a made basket or dead ball, the ball can be checked anywhere behind the arc.

- A defensive rebound must be taken past the arc (includes air balls). There are no “free backs”.

SCORING

- Inside the Arc: 2 points per basket.

- Outside the Arc: 3 points per basket.

FREE THROWS:(Fouled Player)

- 1 point (And-1)

- 2 points (inside the arc foul or bonus free throw)

- 3 points (field goal attempt outside the arc)

Bonus Free Throws:

- One shot (worth 2 points) for the fifth team foul and all subsequent fouls by the opponent.

- No double-bonus.

- Intentional fouls result in 2 points PLUS the ball.

- Players have 6 seconds to shoot a free throw once the teams are lined up.

OVERTIME

- Tie Game: One-minute overtime period if the game ends in a tie after regulation time.

- Overtime Possession: Determined by a coin toss conducted by the Court Monitor.

ELIMINATION

- A team is eliminated after losing twice in the tournament.

Types of Volunteer Opportunities

Court Monitor

Be a part of the action! All levels of basketball experience are invited to participate, as we provide you with all the tools and training needed for a successful tournament.

Things to note:

You will be required to attend a training seminar to get you ready and prepared for the tournament.

Court Scorekeeper

Get the prime spot for watching the games by keeping score. Score will be kept by a small tabletop manual flip scoreboard and baskets will be worth one and two points each.

General Volunteer

If the high intensity of being a Court Monitor or Score Keeper is not for you, we need volunteers for team check-in, merchandise, and more! If interested please complete the form above and we will be sure to place you in a position you are excited about and comfortable with.

What is the date and time and location for the tournament?

August 24th, 2024, starting at 9:00 at College Park Elementary School (1110 Bennington Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23464)

When is the team entry deadline?

In order to guarantee your desired division, 3 Hoops 4 Hope must receive your completed registration August 15, 2024.

When is team check in?

Team Check-in is on Saturday morning before the start of the tournament, starting at 8:15 AM.

Have one team representative come with your team name and division and you'll receive your team registration bag with the event program schedule..

When will the schedules be out?

Schedules will be posted online on August 16th, 2024.
